SUPERINTENDING ENGINEER FOR ASIAN GAMES VILLAGES IN DELHI       DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.

From December,1980 to May, 1983

This was another rare experience which any engineer could find the chance because during this period I got completed 10 KM expensive specification of Road, 853 houses, big dining hall with single span of 75’ x75’ and the total carpet area of more than 41000 sq.ft. In this dining hall, 2,000 people could dine at a time and in addition a big kitchen with 30,000 sq.ft. Covered areas, according to the requirement of the I.T.D.C. were got completed in shortest possible time. All these Development works, Roads houses and dining halls were used for accommodation and services provided in the Asian Games Village were appreciated throughout the world. Furnishing of 853 houses and a big dining hall costing about Rs.200 Lakhs was another rare experience and the work was got completed in the shortest possible time, of three months.

For this purpose, I was sent to Brisbane (Australia) by the Government /D.D.A. to observe the system adopted by them for the commonwealth Games held in Brisbane in September-October’1982. With this experience we had worked round the clock during the operation of the games for the proper maintenance of the services to avoid any complaint by the participants and the services so rendered were appreciated throughout the world and the Asian Games I was appointed as Controller (Maintenance) and was looking after the maintenance in all disciplines including electrical and Mechanical works.
After the Asian Games, there was a proposal to accommodate Non-Aligned Meet delegates and these delegates being quite senior, the simple type of furnishing already done in these houses had to be improved. As per the decision at the Government level 400 houses out of 853 were improved in furnishing by providing better quality carpets, curtains, additional furniture etc. The improved furnishing of these 400 houses was completed within one month and the Non-Aligned Meet delegates were accommodated in 400 houses. Even the services in the dining hall and huge kitchen the Asian Games and Non-Aligned Meet was a rare experience of this type of job.
